Reading the Bible in 90 days!

Today my daughter and I began the challenge to read the Bible cover to cover in 90 days. I will not be blogging much these next 3 months so I can focus just on reading God's word and taking it all in. I will post updates periodically so here is the first confirmation that we are GOING FOR IT! We read today Genesis 1:1-16:16. It was great to have the opportunity to discuss this with my daughter as well since we are doing the same challenge and are going to hold each other accountable. Prayer: Lord God, I thank you for your word! What a privilege it is to be a part of your story that continues to unfold. I pray as I read your word these next 90 days that I would achieve the purpose of having a deeper understanding and appreciation for your story and the truths that you want to teach me. I pray in the name of Jesus against any distraction that might prevent me from committing to this goal which is really based on a desire to serve you and know your word. Help me to stay focused on the right purpose each day and to use this time for your glory and not my own agenda. Oh how much I wish to be fully committed to you...help me in my weakness. A special blessing for my daughter as well as she begins this journey for the first time, not just with me but with your word. I pray in Jesus name! Amen.

I choose YOU!

My SOAP devotional for June 6th - This will be my last devotional on my blog for 3 months. I am taking a break from blogging to take the challenge to read the entire Bible in 90 days! Will you join me in this challenge beginning June 23rd? At various times I will give updates on how I'm doing with this 90 day challenge, so come back and check it out!

S - Acts 24:24-25
24Several days later Felix came with his wife Drusilla, who was a Jewess. He sent for Paul and listened to him as he spoke about faith in Christ Jesus. 25As Paul discoursed on righteousness, self-control and the judgment to come, Felix was afraid and said, "That's enough for now! You may leave. When I find it convenient, I will send for you."

O - Felix left Paul in prison to make the Jewish leaders happy but he wanted to learn more for himself about Jesus. He would have been familiar with the Christians having been governor for six years. This was a frequent topic of conversation among the Roman leaders. He brought his wife Drusilla so that they both could learn more about Jesus. Felix was very uncomfortable in their conversations about righteousness, self-control, and judgment, perhaps because Felix was not one interested in the changes he would have to make in his own life.

A - When we share our faith with others it can lead to conversations about righteousness, self-control and coming judgment. For some, perhaps many, this can create an uncomfortable moment of realizing that following Jesus requires change. There are times when the Holy Spirit convicts me of needing to look at my own actions and I have to make a choice to follow Christ or follow the ways of the world. This is a daily choice, even when we have chosen Jesus as savior and Lord of our life.

P - Jesus, you are the way, the truth, and the life. I choose you. Amen.

My hope is in Jesus

This is my SOAP devotional for 5/27

S - Psalm 25:4-5
4 Show me your ways, O LORD,
teach me your paths;

5 guide me in your truth and teach me,
for you are God my Savior,
and my hope is in you all day long.

O - I thought for a long time as a young adult that if you had down the basic concepts of Christianity and a desire to do good that that was enough. We read here that we should desire a continuous relationship with the Lord. That He guides us daily, when we ask for and invite Him to be in charge of our lives. We should be open to continuous teaching in His word and by the Holy Spirit. It is not enough to just know "the law", we should seek guidance in all things as to avoid the traps or deception of our enemies. We need a savior!

A - Oh how we can be deceived with our eyes and ears, and waver based on our feelings at the moment. I confess my weakness for the distraction to get caught up in what I perceive as destruction. How easy it is for me to forget how big God is and how He already knows the outcome of each battle. I must place my hope in Jesus.

P - My hope is in you Lord. Seeing your path is easy when I remember to put on my blinders and run the race YOU have laid out for me. Where would I be without you my Lord Jesus, my savior! Amen.
